Celebrating 30 Years of Illmatic
This fall, Nas is set to bring the iconic "Golden Era" of hip-hop back to life with a special anniversary tour marking 30 years since the release of his groundbreaking debut album Illmatic. Hip-hop fans in the German-speaking region can rejoice, as Nas will perform five exclusive shows, including stops in Berlin, Cologne, and Offenbach, along with two special performances in Zurich and Vienna.
After an impressive show in Berlin last summer alongside Wu-Tang Clan,
Nas is back for a solo journey through his musical legacy, offering fans a chance to celebrate one of the most influential rap albums ever made. Released on April 19, 1994, Illmatic redefined East Coast rap, ushering in a new era of lyricism, storytelling, and production that resonated deeply across the hip-hop world.
From tracks like "N.Y. State of Mind" to "The World is Yours,"
Illmatic set a new standard, establishing Nas as a visionary whose influence would be felt for decades. The NYC rapper’s ability to blend deep lyrical themes with intricate rhyme schemes earned him comparisons to poets such as Langston Hughes, solidifying his place as one of the greatest to ever hold a mic.
Over the past 30 years, Nas has released 17 studio albums, including It Was Written, I Am, and King’s Disease, which won a Grammy in 2021. But no matter how many classics followed, Illmatic remains the measuring stick by which all his work is judged.
Nas,
now 51, continues to push his artistry forward, releasing six new albums since 2020, including his celebrated King’s Disease and Magic series. This anniversary tour brings his career full circle, allowing fans to journey back to the album that started it all, experiencing Illmatic live as never before.
