London's Cineworld Leicester Square transformed into a dazzling spectacle as stars gathered for the UK premiere of Disney’s highly anticipated prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, on December 11, 2024. The evening marked a celebration of storytelling, featuring the origin tale of one of cinema's most beloved characters, Mufasa.
The Story of a King
Directed by Academy Award-winner Barry Jenkins, Mufasa: The Lion King delves into the rise of a young Mufasa, who begins life as an orphaned cub. Guided by unexpected alliances, he embarks on a journey that shapes his destiny as the future king of the Pride Lands. Narrated in flashbacks by Rafiki, the film connects Mufasa's story with Simba and Nala’s daughter, Kiara, voiced by Blue Ivy Carter.
The star-studded voice cast includes Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka (later known as Scar), and Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros, the leader of a pride of white lions and the film’s formidable antagonist.
A Night of Glamour
The red carpet event saw the film’s stars and creative team arriving in stunning ensembles:
Mads Mikkelsen, who voices Kiros, turned heads in a sleek black three-piece suit, embodying the elegance of the evening. Seth Rogen, reprising his role as Pumbaa, was all smiles as he joined the celebration. Billy Eichner, returning as Timon, exuded charm in a navy double-breasted jacket paired with a grey turtleneck jumper. The evening also highlighted the talents of Blue Ivy Carter, whose proud parents, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, celebrated her performance on social media. Beyoncé shared: “You worked hard and you did such a beautiful job as the voice of Kiara. Your family could not be prouder. Keep shining.”
